Cole Porter’s Anything Goes is delightful, delicious, and de-lovely! This age-old tale of Boy-Meets-Girl (and the complications which follow) intrigues every audience. Ethel Merman used to say that Anything Goes was about “a girl on a boat.” No surprise there, but who could forget about the crew of dashing sailors, a peculiar disguise, and some good old-fashioned blackmail to actualize true love. The S.S. American ocean liner heads out for London, bringing with it a collection of colorful passengers, including a nightclub singer turned evangelist, an escaped convict, and a refined English lord. Madcap antics arise as this motley crew begins to pair off in the most unlikely of ways, and a rollicking good time ensues! Anything Goes is an amusing story wrapped around one of Cole Porter’s magical scores. As Ben Brantley of the New York Times wrote, “this willfully silly tale of love, deception and celebrity-chasing on the high seas, … features a deluxe candy box of songs by Cole Porter,” including “Easy to Love,” “I Get a Kick Out of You,” “You’re the Top,” “De-Lovely,” and, of course, “Anything Goes.” Directed and choreographed by Diane Lala, this Tony award-winning extravaganza is sure to have you tap dancing all the way home!
