Satchmo Summer Fest

Thursday August 2 - Sunday August 5.

LA State Museum's Old U.S. Mint

Over the years, Satchmo SummerFest has evolved into what one visiting music writer called “a mini-JazzFest”. With three days of outdoor concerts, music history seminars, jazz exhibits, a jazz mass, a second-line parade and plenty of local food delicacies and drinks, the festival has become a travelers’, as well as a local, favorite. Nearly all of the participating musicians are New Orleans-based. A Satchmo art contest and exhibit at the Crescent City Brewhouse attracts some of the city’s most talented artists to create works in a Satchmo motif. There’s even a fun-filled “Satchmo Strut” down Frenchmen Street, taking in most of the nightclubs in the city’s preeminent live music district.

Music all weekend on festival stages featuring traditional jazz, contemporary jazz, brass bands & children’s programming. A sampling of performers who play the festival include Leroy Jones, Jeremy Davenport, Connie Jones’ Crescent City Jazz Band, Yoshio Toyama and the Dixie Saints, The Palmetto Bug Stompers, Shamarr Allen, Rebirth Brass Band, Tim Laughlin, Soul Rebels, Treme Brass Band, Leah Chase, James Andrews, Lars Edegran’s New Orleans Ragtime Orchestra, New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park programming for kids, & more!

Make sure to check out free seminars and discussions, and special events, such as: Louis Armstrong Birthday Party, Satchmo Art Show, kids’ activities and entertainment, Sunday morning Jazz Mass at historic St. Augustine Church in Treme, a traditional second line parade, a Trumpet Tribute to close the festival & the Satchmo Club Strut.

Most of the Satchmo SummerFest’s activities take place in and around the Old U.S. Mint opposite the French Market at Barracks Street and Esplanade Avenue.
