Acclaimed as “a player of impressive authority and presence” (The Strad) and “one of the top violinists of tomorrow” (Diapason), 24-year-old Yossif Ivanov has quickly established himself as one of the leading violinists of the young generation. He was awarded the First Prize at the Montreal International Competition at the age of 16, and the Second Prize as well as the Public Prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels at the age of 18.

Ivanov has made acclaimed debuts in all major European cities such as London, Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam, Vienna, Salzburg, and Geneva. During the past season, he received much publicity for his orchestral debuts in the United States, on tour with London Philharmonic and Vladimir Jurowski; and in Asia, with the Malaysian Philharmonic and Singapore Symphony Orchestra. Ivanov has been invited to play recitals at the Menton and Montpellier Festivals in France, the Philharmonie Essen and the Beethovenfest Bonn in Germany, and Carnegie Hall in New York. As a soloist, he has also performed with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the English Chamber Orchestra, the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre Métropolitain du Grand Montréal, the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra, and all the major orchestras in Belgium. He has worked with well-known conductors Neëme Järvi, Marin Alsop, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Vladimir Jurowski, Jean-Claude Casadesus, Philippe Herreweghe, Jaap Van Zweden, Kees Bakels, Yuri Simonov, John Axelrod, and Yoel Levi to name a few.

In November 2006, his first CD on the Ambroisie/Naïve label was awarded a Diapason d’Or de l’Année, the most important recording industry award in France. His first concerto CD was very well received by the musical press.

Ivanov has studied the violin with Zakhar Bron, Igor and Valery Oistrakh, and Augustin Dumay. He is the youngest violin teacher at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. He plays on the 1699 “Lady Tennant” Stradivarius, kindly lent by the Stradivarius Society of Chicago.
